Brief: Using fast shutter speeds, try to isolate a frozen moment of time in a moving subject.

I specifically wanted to use water as my subject for this exercise and utilise shooting outdoors in order to keep my ISO at 100. My 50mm f/1.4 prime lens was the go-to choice as it produces really sharp images.

I shot a few different water-based concepts but decided on the spray from the garden hose, shot against the sky, largely for its simplicity. The sun highlights the droplets nicely.

I set my camera to shutter priority and selected the fastest speed possible, 1/4000th of a second. I knew the camera would open up the aperture to compensate for such fast shutter speeds, so I was concerned that the depth of field would be very shallow which might have meant that not much of the water would have been in focus. However, the camera only needed to go to f/4.5 for the majority of the images.
